Smart Home Technology Test & Support Engineer

We are looking for someone who enjoys figuring out how things work and solving technical problems to help test and support our growing range of products.

This role could suit someone with experience in software testing or technical support, but it could equally suit someone with a background in smart home or A/V installation, or a technically minded individual looking to move into a software-focused role.

The most important qualities are curiosity, logical thinking, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

You will be supported by experienced engineers while learning our products and systems.

What you’ll be doing

You will help ensure our software works reliably for customers and installers.

Typical tasks include:

  • Writing and running test plans and test scripts
  • Manually testing mobile apps and smart home drivers
  • Investigating and reproducing software issues
  • Setting up test systems to diagnose faults
  • Logging and tracking customer issues
  • Helping customers troubleshoot technical problems
  • Accessing systems remotely when required
  • Working with developers to investigate and verify fixes
  • Documenting issues, improvements and test results

Because we are a small team, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution.

Over time you will build a strong understanding of our systems and products.

Experience that would be useful

  • Software testing or QA
  • Technical product support
  • Smart home or A/V installation
  • Programming or configuring systems such as Control4, RTI, Crestron Home
  • Writing test scripts or technical documentation

However, direct experience in software testing is not essential.

We are equally interested in people who demonstrate strong technical curiosity and logical problem solving.

The kind of person who will do well in this role

You are likely someone who:

  • Enjoys investigating why something isn’t working
  • Approaches problems logically and methodically
  • Learns new systems quickly
  • Enjoys experimenting with technology
  • Communicates clearly with both customers and engineers
  • Is organised and pays attention to detail
  • Enjoys working in a small collaborative team

If you enjoy experimenting with technology, building or configuring systems at home, or working with smart home equipment, we would particularly like to hear from you.

A sense of humour also helps.

Education

A relevant degree is useful but not essential.
Practical technical experience and enthusiasm are equally valuable.

How to apply

Please send your CV and a short covering letter explaining why the role interests you.

When applying, please also include a short answer to this question:

A customer reports that a feature in a mobile app occasionally stops working, but only sometimes. What steps would you take to investigate the problem?

We are not looking for a perfect answer — we are interested in how you approach technical problems.

If you feel you could do well in this role but don’t meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply.

Pay: £27,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
