BMS Systems Design Engineer (Building Controls / Smart Buildings)

We are looking for a BMS Systems Design Engineer with some exposure to building controls or building automation systems, and experience producing technical drawings using CAD tools.

You will support the design and delivery of Building Management Systems (BMS) across smart building projects in high-end residential and commercial environments.

This role combines system design, CAD documentation and technical project support, working alongside experienced engineers to ensure systems are well designed, well documented and successfully delivered.

Key Responsibilities

System Design

• Assist in developing BMS system architecture and control strategies
• Produce CAD drawings, control schematics and technical documentation
• Support specification of controllers, field devices and system networks
• Ensure design intent is maintained through installation and commissioning

Project Delivery

• Support technical coordination across multiple BMS projects
• Liaise with clients, consultants and contractors on technical matters
• Assist with design updates, system configuration and project documentation

Commissioning Support

• Assist with configuration and commissioning of BMS controllers and software
• Support integration of HVAC, energy management and automation systems
• Help diagnose and resolve system issues during project delivery

Essential Skills & Experience

• Exposure to BMS, building controls or building automation systems
• Ability to produce CAD drawings or technical schematics (AutoCAD or similar)
• Basic understanding of HVAC or building services systems
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation
• Willingness to work across both office design work and onsite project activity
• Full UK driving licence

Desirable

• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus or LonWorks
• Experience working with BMS controllers or building automation systems
• Exposure to smart home or smart building platforms (Crestron Home, Control4, Niko etc.)
• Background in building services, controls engineering or automation

• Building Management Systems (BMS)
• BACnet and Modbus building networks
• HVAC plant integration (AHUs, chillers, boilers and energy systems)
• AutoCAD or equivalent CAD tools for system schematics and documentation
