Back in contact with rest of world now having completed my adventureDue to the delays in getting to Lukla we couldn't do our planned itinerary for trekking up to Gokyo and over the Reno La - Iโ€™ll have to come back to do that another time. Instead we went up to Thame where we witnessed the devastation of the recent floods that had wiped out a large part of the village. Fortunately there werenโ€™t any casualties and the resilient villagers are already rebuilding. Sherpa Aid is one of the charities Iโ€™m supporting in my fund raising and they are helping fund those affected by the floods After a night in Thame we did an acclimatisation hike up Sunder peak (5000m) before moving up to base camp (4500m) in a beautiful hidden valley. The steep sides meant we only got sun in camp for a few hours a dayA rest day in base camp with practice on rope skills and abseiling was followed by a load carry to camp 1 at 5300m, up a 400m gully to a snow:boulder filled upper hidden valley and the up a further 350m steep slope with loose scree.Another welcome rest day and the the ascent starts after a Puja - a Tibetan Bhuddist ritual asking for protection and safe passageCamp 1 in a dayFollowed by an ascent to camp 2 across a glacier and up onto a col at 5700m. This was a fantastic location with incredible views of the surrounding mountainsSummit day started in the dark at 3am, but unfortunately I didnโ€™t make it all the way to the topOverall I had a fantastic experience and have ultimate admiration for our Sherpa team: they were so hard working and it was amazing to see their strength and dedication to ensuring a safe trip. Prior to our summit attempt, theyโ€™d gone up the day before fixing ropes for our safety, guided us on the way up and cleaned the mountain on the way down, whilst running all other logistics related to camp. Incredible and heart felt gratitudeIโ€™m setting a big goal: raising ยฃ2000 for two incredible causes. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’™ Together for Cinema โ€“ bringing the magic of home cinemas to hospices and respite centers for children.๐Ÿงก Sherpa Aid โ€“ supporting the brave Sherpas and their families who have been impacted by injuries or tragic losses in the mountains. They will be making donations to those affected by the recent devasting floodsEvery little helps! TREK UPDATE:Weโ€™ve eventually made it to Namche after being held up by bad weather that prevented any flights into Lukla. Instead we had to take a 7 hour bus ride, followed by several jeeps over very bumpy dirt roads (for the last one I was standing in the back for two hours) followed by a trek to join up with our intended routeIt was very different from what was planned, but interesting to see a different part of Nepal. It was also very sad to see the devastation that the recent floods have caused.Unfortunately weโ€™re now 5 days behind schedule and have had to adjust the itinerary- we donโ€™t have time to get up to Gokyo, but instead are climbing a local peak and then heading to Kyajo Ri base campThe good news is that the weather has finally cleared and we were rewarded with some fabulous views of the Everest range and AmaDablamIโ€™m setting a big goal: raising ยฃ2000 for two incredible causes.
